Storytime for Children of all Ages!

Starting this summer during the service, between the Peace and the Offertory, the Celebrant will read a story from a favorite book! This will only add about 5 minutes to the service schedule. So your mission is to bring fun and exciting books for us to read. They do not need to be relgious at all, but a moral is always good! If the book is larger than a 5 minute read, no worries, we can finish it the next Sunday! Nothing like a little suspense to keep the children coming back! This will be a fun and exciting addition to our service this summer and hopefully into the next millennium as well. Thank you in advance for your books and cooperation!

Help Wanted!

Sunday School Rooms: For summer months, we need someone in the nursery, and we will be having special dates of summer Sunday school. In addition, parents are invited to allow their children access to both Sunday School rooms to color, play, etc. but are asked to please make sure those areas are left how they are found.

If you have time, please help clean up the garage!
We still need assistance in the lawn mowing, please see Greg Toon for information.
We are still in the process of making Christmas stocking for the Salvation Army for teenagers, we will announce the time. We are still looking at the first Monday of the month. We will be filling in the stockings with things for teenagers. Tooth paste, cards, gum, hair bands, Kleenex, etc.
You may have noticed all the bears. These go to the juvenile center. These bears are for crying on, punching, loving, talking to. A bible study is held once a month. If you are interested in this ministry please see David Hill or Jane. We can always use a new member. David has been going to the juvenile center for 20 years or so and Jane has been going for about 8 years. Please come and join us for the rewards that you receive in your heart.

Second Annual Rhubarb Festival on Saturday, June 24

CHUM's Second Annual Rhubarb Festival at First Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 24 promises to be bigger than last year, yet every bit as tasty. Last year the pies sold out in 45 minutes and there wasn't a smidgen of food by the time the winners of the Recipe and Largest Leaf Contests were announced. We will have more pies, more treats, and even MORE FUN in 2006 from mid-morning (9am) to early afternoon (2pm) on June 24!! Mark your calendars! To prepare for the fun, we need volunteers to start picking, chopping and freezing rhubarb for pies, sauce, juice, bars and other treats! We will also need folks from congregations and community organizations willing to form baking teams, conduct family activities, provide music, and assist the day of the event. To participate – or if you know of rhubarb sources around the community – call CHUM Congregational Organizer Kim Crawford at 260-7346. New festival features this year will include special pre-festival warm-up music and treats in one of three outside tents beginning at 8:30am. Doors open and the formal musical stage show begins at 9am. We also will have a tent for community-based vendors and are aiming to expand the assortment of family activities. Mark your calendars and watch for details during the weeks ahead.

God Let's Us Choose
by Cheryl Harder in the Hermantown Star

When I give the final blessing during services, I begin by saying,"Scripture tells us that we are the hands and feet of Christ. By our hands we can love; with our hands we can hate. It is up to us. God lets us choose." I then state my commitment to put my life in God's hands. For many people who do not yet know the love of Christ, what they see in our actions is their perception of Christians and of Christ. Although we know that we do not get to heaven on our actions, we as Christians, are expected to act in a certain way. In 1 John 3: 18-24, we are reminded that we are to love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. We are also reminded to obey Gods commandments and do what pleases Him. The Gospel of John (14: 15-21) states that if we love Jesus, we will keep his commandments: To love God and to love our neighbors.

Last week as I stood outside our church garage in the rain and mud,for our annual barter sale, I remembered that love. I was cold and wet and wondered why I was there, when one small child came up to me and asked me how much new stuffed animal cost? I explained that the new treasure that she had found did not require a cash payment to me, but rather a commitment to God. I asked what her toy was worth to her, and what
was she willing to do for someone else? Once she thought about that, she was to write her promise (her barter) down, and to put it in the box. I told her she didn't have to tell me what she agreed to do, it was between her and God. She questioned me as if this was too good to be true * all she had to do was to agree to do something nice to or for someone, and write it down (commit to it)? Could it be that simple?

The short answer is yes. Making a commitment to God is that simple. We make those promises daily. Where we get caught up is in the follow through. We promise to change our behavior and then when it no longer suits us we forego our promise, and fall short. Thankfully for us, God is merciful and forgives us. By reading scripture, and following the Word we are given assurances that when we sin, we will be redeemed by
the grace of God. The barter sale is just another time for us to intentionally focus our actions to help keep God's commandment about loving our neighbors.

Worship Team Calendar

The Worship Team Calendar is monthly service schedule of duty assignments for Sunday and special services. Worship team members include priest(s) or officiant, deacon(s), preacher, lector(s), eucharistic minister(s), acolyte(s), and greeters/ushers. It is important that these assignments are filled and those unable to make their scheduled assignments find a replacement and/or contact our liturgist. The Sacristy Team (Altar Guild) maintains its own schedule.

Lay Readers Needed

The laity, the people of the church, all the baptized, are called to ministry. Lay readers are non-ordained ministers in worship. Traditionally they led the Daily Offices (Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, etc,) and are licensed by the Diocese to read the scripture lessons in church. A lector is appointed by the liturtgist or the celebrant to read the lessons that precede the gospel and to be the cantor or the one who leads the psalm at the eucharist service. The lector should be prepared to read the prayers of the people in the absence of the intercessor or the deacon. This a special ministry that gives voice to God's Word and voice to the prayers of the congregation. If you feel a call to this ministry or want to know more about it, contact our liturgist, Carol Shultz.

Greeters Needed

We need volunteers to greet people on Sunday mornings. Greeters are the first smiling face visitors see on a Sunday morning. Contact Barb Tourville if you are interested.

Support Team Calendar

The Support Team Calendar is a monthly service schedule for those who have volunteered to provide regularly scheduled support functions to make the church an inviting and hospitable environment for worship, fellowship, and outreach activities.

Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed

The ancient tradition of hospitality is to offer the visitor or guest something to eat and to drink. While many call Trinity home none of us live there. Take the opportunity to be the host, or just help out in the kitchen, during the Coffee Hour following church service, and pass along the hospitality you have received. There is a sign-up sheet just outside the kitchen door.

Cleaning Angels Needed

Mostly the same few people provide help in this important ministry. Lighten the load, and spend a fews hours once in a while on your knees and hands, so to speak, keeping God's house praiseworthy. There is a sign-up sheet just outside the kitchen door, or better yet, make Barb Tourville's day, and let her know you want to help.

Thank You

Thank you to all who did road clean up and the Barter sale, bake sale and corn dogs. Do you believe we made $500.00 on Bakery, corn dogs and any other donation. We do have to pay out for advertising and supplies.

All were a success..... Out reach is the name of the game. We reach many who don't know us, and we are showing them the love of God. Some people have never know this feeling where some one cares for them with out strings being attached. God Loves You.

Just A Few Barter Sale Thoughts:

I will listen to my Sunday School Teacher.
I will take my Mom to lunch.
I will mow my neighbor’s lawn because he cannot do it.
I will dust the furniture for my Mom.
I will come to Trinity.
I will take my Auntie to lunch.
I have cancer and I will make my remaining days positive.

Next year we will have the Barter sale again so put that time aside 2nd week end of May. Thanks again.

Expenses: $5,462.80 Income: $4,551.55. Please continue to keep up your pledges in the summer. Remember we have to have some repairs on our boiler system for the winter. This will run about $1,500.00 or so. Thank you.

Some Thoughts

LILACS
What can banish along winter’s gloom like a handful or two of sweet lilacs bloom?
They’re a feast for the eyes, a treat for the nose:
Where God got his recipe nobody knows

The Prayer of the Chalice

Father, to Thee I raise my whole being,
--a vessel emptied of self, Accept, Lord,
this my emptiness, and so fill me with
Thyself Thy Light, Thy Love, Thy
life that these Thy precious Gifts
may radiate through me and over-
flow the chalice of my heart into
the hearts of all with whom I
come into contact this day
revealing unto them
the beauty of
Thy Joy and
Whole-
ness
and
the
serenity
of Thy Peace
which nothing can destroy.
